Frigate QuartermasterEmail From Henry CordovaAttached is the account I promised of my year in the fleet (I was a reservist). Feel free to edit or use it as you wish; I have changed all the names so you won't have to worry about being sued. This is a chapter of my memoirs (plus a couple of lead-in and wrap-up paragraphs to provide some transition), and was never meant to be anything except a bit of fun for myself and some close friends. But the chapter on my Navy days may be of interest to you: it's how I saw the black-shoe, whitehat, Zumwalt Navy during the height of the Vietnam war. This is a time and place where there has been very little documentation; perhaps someday I will expand this material into a book. I was only 20 years old. As you can imagine, there has been a lot left out...Also, if you still keep up with your celnav, I've written some sight reduction/fix plotting software for the HP28/48 pocket calculators I'd be happy to share with anyone interested. It uses either the Nautical Almanac or the Compact Data coefficient format the Royal Navy uses for celestial data.
The calculator sight reduction software is free to anyone who will
send me an HP48 RAM card so I can transfer the software to it, and
$3.00 to cover postage (I will send a copy of the documentation
with it). Or if you just send a 9" x12" stamped envelope I will
send you the documentation and the listings. I'm sure there are
better calculator sight reduction programs available, but you can't
beat the price on this one! And it has been tested, where it counts,
offshore.
